Pepco rates will be going up for D.C. customers, but not as much as the power company wants.
The Public Service Commission approved a $19.8 million increase in distribution rates Tuesday -- that's well below the $44.5 million that Pepco had requested.
According to the commission, the hike will be offset by a recent cut in supply rates, making the overall average increase between $1.30 to $2.30 a month.
The commission's decision can be appealed. If it takes effect, customers would see the higher rates at the end of March.
