Engineering and project management firm Bechtel Corp. is moving 625 jobs from Maryland to Virginia.
Company officials said the firm's operational headquarters will move from Frederick to Reston. Bechtel's corporate headquarters are in San Francisco.
“Gaining an international company like Bechtel Corporation is a huge coup for Virginia and Fairfax County,” Gov. Bob McDonnell said. “The company was attracted to the commonwealth due to its business environment, cost and ability to attract the best workforce to meet future growth needs, especially IT and engineering employees in the area.”
The company had last month announced plans to keep 1,250 jobs in the company's power unit in Frederick after Maryland officials approved a $9.5 million grant. Those employees have average salaries of $125,000.
Virginia officials enticed Bechtel to relocate the 625 jobs with $6.5 million in state grants.
Bechtel officials said they expect to move into 200,000 square feet of leased space near Reston Town Center in the third quarter of 2012.
