The Washington Convention and Sports Authority now goes by the name "Events DC." District leaders hope the concise name will streamline the pitch for bringing events into the city.
The Washington Convention and Sports Authority has a new name: Events DC.
The re-branding of the authority was announced Wednesday. The name reflects its expanded mission since the convention authority merged with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission in 2009, the group said.
The new name will be the centerpiece of a marketing effort intended to draw more events to the convention center, RFK Stadium and the D.C. Armory and build on the city’s $5 billion per year tourism industry.
D.C. fights for business with nearby suburbs and other convention center cities like Philadelphia.
