    WASHINGTON -- The National Cherry Blossom Festival reports that it did in fact prove recession-proof this year.

    Guest Services Inc. reported retail sales were up 25 percent over 2008, and concessions also increased. April 4 saw record-breaking sales.

    WMATA reported record Saturday and Sunday ridership on April 4 and April 5, respectively.

    Area restaurants and hotels reported good business, as well.
