Have I got a deal for you!
One Chicago-area car dealership is offering customers the chance to buy a $40,000 2008 Chrysler Pacifica, a luxury SUV, and get an '08 PT Cruiser for a buck.
Frank Mancari started the promotion at the Oak Law car dealership on Saturday and planned on ending it Monday, but it has been extended. He's hoping to exhaust his supply within a day or two.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Mancari told the Chicago Tribune. "There's no secret: the industry is slow right now. We're trying to generate activity with a great deal."
The Pacificas are priced at $37,000 to $40,000. The PT Cruisers have about 10,000 miles on them, some of which were rental vehicles or were driven by Chrysler employees. Normally, they'd retail for about $12,000.
"Maybe with the way the economy is, you need a car for your wife or kid but don't want to pay for two cars," the salesman told the Southtown Star. "Everybody is looking for a bargain."
Mancari may be losing money on the promotion, but he's garnered plenty of publicity because of it. Only a handful of Pacificas were left as of yesterday. Once they are all sold, the offer ends.
