When Hartford police look for snakes, they are not usually the slithering kind, but that’s what cops were searching for on Main Street Monday afternoon.

Angel Rolon, 20, of New Britain, was driving on Main Street and lost control of his SUV when the baby snakes slithered near the gas and brake pedals and he and a passenger tried to catch them, Hartford police said.

Rolon was treated at a hospital for unknown injuries and police gave him a summons for reckless driving and other charges.

Rolon lost control of his car and crashed into Hartford Neighborhood Centers’ van, Lynn Ford, executive director of Hartford Neighborhood Centers, said.

Rolon also hit another vehicle, Ford said, and was then taken to the hospital.

Some children from a daycare were nearby and Ford said she is grateful that none of them were hurt.

Police gave Rolon a summons for reckless driving and other charges.

If, in fact, he simply used this as an excuse -- it might be the best we've ever heard.
