The father of Bristol Palin disliked ex-fiance Levi Johnston so much that he offered to buy his daughter a car if she split from the hunky high school dropout.

The 19-year-old father of Bristol's five-month-old son dished on his rocky relationship with the Palin clan in a soon-to-be published interview in GQ -- and said his would-be father-in-law was so desperate to send him packing that he tried to bribe his daughter with a car on multiple occasions.

The unemployed self-proclaimed "f---ing redneck" made a poor impression on the family of former veep candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- but teen mom Bristol refused to stop seeing the hockey stud until their bitter breakup in March.

The split caused infighting between the two families -- and the Johnstons went public with their gripes over custody and child support.

"I'd give anything for [Tripp], to be with him," Levi said during a television interview in March. "[There are] a lot of changes when you're a father, when you hold him for the first time, you know. I don't do a lot of things I used to anymore, I'll tell you that."

Bristol's rugged moose hunting ex went on a media blitz after the break up so he could "tell his side of the story," he said.

Bristol, who graduated from high school last week, was said to be "devastated" by the bitter breakup with Levi but now says she's glad to two didn't wed this summer as they had initially planned.

"I'm thankful we didn't get married because if it wasn't going to work now, it wasn't going to work in five years," she told People magazine.

The 18-year old is now a spokesperson for an anti-teen pregnancy advocate group.

"I'm just out here just trying to tell teens this is hard work," she said earlier this month. "It's not like an accessory on your hip. It's hard work."
