Police are looking for a car or SUV that hit a man in his late 20s or early 30s while he was trying to cross Arlington Boulevard early Saturday morning.

Police say they believe the man had been in the crosswalk on Arlington Boulevard between Patrick Henry Drive and East Manchester Street at around 6:10 a.m. when the driver struck him. The driver was traveling in the eastbound lanes and did not stop at the scene, according to police.

The man who was hit was brought to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he is in life-threatening condition.

Police say the vehicle most likely has front end damage and, possibly, broken headlights, windshield and drivers side mirror.

Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
