One of the most infamous killing sprees, that of Charles Manson and his "family," happened 48 years ago this week. Nearly five decades ago,
four of Manson's cult followers barged into a Los Angeles mansion and went on a killing spree they called "Helter Skelter." Of the numerous
killings, one of the most recognized victims was actress Sharon Tate, who was eight-months pregnant at the time she was murdered.
Manson, 82, and his followers' killings were the result of an effort to create an apocalyptic race war. He is now serving nine life sentences at Corcoran State Prison in California, where he has been denied parole a dozen times.
