The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is ramping up security in its parking lots.
The announcement comes weeks after a News4 I-Team investigation revealed a patient's body went undiscovered for almost two days outside the Washington DC VA Medical Center.
A D.C. veteran died in the parking lot outside the medical center on Irving Street in late May.
Despite calls from his family for help after the man disappeared, medical center workers didn't find him. His sister walked through the parking lot about 36 hours later and found his body.
Congressional leaders saw the I-Team report and launched a review of how something like that could happen.
VA Secretary David Shulkin said they're making changes nationwide in the meantime.
"We have re-instituted regular checks of our parking lots to make sure that all of our property is policed appropriately, to make sure that if this does ever happen where somebody is in an ill health situation in a parking lot, we find them in a timely fashion," he said.

The cause of the man's death has yet to be released to investigators by the medical examiner. According to congressional records reviewed by the I-Team, there was no evidence of a crime.
