Following the deaths of two babies and a possible bacteria outbreak at the neonatal intensive care unit in Prince George's Hospital Center, the News 4 I-Team analyzed federal health records on babies who die before they turn a year old.
The I-Team compared the number of deaths in parts of our region in 2013, the most recent year for which data is available in the Linked Birth/Infant Death Records of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
To protect privacy, the CDC does not provide records for counties with a population less than 250,000.
The data shows that Prince George's County has the second-highest infant mortality rate in Maryland among babies born to term, following Baltimore City.
