Tiger Tweets U.S. Open Hope

A recent tweet from Tiger Woods may come as good news for D.C. golf fans:

Woods withdrew from last week's Players Championship after only nine holes. He blamed an irritated knee and Achilles tendon for his six-over-par performance.

However, Woods seems determined to compete in the U.S. Open in June.

"I'll do whatever is necessary to play in the U.S. Open," Woods said on his website. "I'm hopeful I can be there to compete."

Woods, winless since November 2009, is in the longest slump of his career. He has dropped to eighth in the world rankings.

While the Open is still on his radar, he is expected to miss Jack Nicklaus's Memorial Tournament on June 2-5.

The 2011 U.S. Open will be played at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. from June 13-19.
