140,000 Fans Flock To the DMV

This time of year is notoriously slow for sports, but don’t tell that to fans in the DMV.

On Sunday, the area played host to almost 140,000 fans on one day with the U.S. Open at Congressional, the Nationals at Nats Park, U.S. Soccer at RFK and WWE Capitol Punishment at the Verizon Center.

That’s a lot of traffic.

U.S. Soccer won the day with 45,423 fans in attendance, followed closely by the U.S. Open with approximately 40,000.

While the WWE came in last as far as fan attendance, it was the only event that can boast an appearance by the “President."

It was a full sports weekend for the District and we know of at least one man who is grateful to see the traffic patterns return to normal.
