Eyelash fertilizer coming to a drug store near you?

Federal regulators said a glaucoma drug from Allergan appears to enhance eyelashes by making them longer and fuller, prompting experts to soon assess the safety of that use.

Allergan, the same folks who gave us Botox, wants the Food and Drug Administration to give the green light to its bimatoprost formula for sale as an eyelash enhancer.

The drug is already being sold to glaucoma sufferers under the name Lumigan. The Irvine, Calif.-based company hopes to start selling it as a beauty aid under the name Latisse.

Allergan measured Latisse's effect using a four point scale, ranging from "minimal" eyelash prominence to "very marked" prominence. The drug is applied once daily to the base of the eyelashes.

  • Anonymous Thursday, Dec 4 at 1:48 PM FLAG COMMENT How about just going out and buying some false eyelashes like the model in the photo? Come on people, no one has lashes like those unless they're store-bought!
  • Maria Thursday, Dec 4 at 1:16 PM FLAG COMMENT I would like to try it. I used to have longer lashes but I guess they've shortened with time after all the mascara applications.
  • Linda D Thursday, Dec 4 at 12:10 AM FLAG COMMENT I take Travatan for glaucoma and my eyelashes grew back after I had lost them from other medication. I'm happy! My eye doctor told me it was from the medication for my eyes. I wonder if it would work on my eyebrows?
