Michelle Obama Campaigns for McAuliffe in Virginia

First lady Michelle Obama campaigned for Democrat Terry McAuliffe Thursday afternoon in his bid to become Virginia's next governor.

Obama attended a fundraiser for about 400 supporters at the Sheraton in Tysons Corner. Tickets for the event ranged from $100 to $750.

McAuliffe and Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli are vying in a fall election to be governor.

The McAuliffe campaign said in a news release that Michelle Obama discussed how he would tackle challenging issues facing the state's economy and that the stakes were high for women and families.

The former Democratic National Committee chairman held nearly a 2-to-1 edge in campaign cash on hand at the end of May over Cuccinelli. Reports due Monday by statewide and legislative candidates showed McAuliffe with $5.4 million in the bank as of May 29 to Cuccinelli's $2.7 million.
