McAuliffe, Unchallenged, Is Virginia Democrats' Gubernatorial Nominee

Terry McAuliffe is the Democratic Party's nominee for this fall's Virginia governor's race.

With no other candidate presenting petitions, the former Democratic National Committee chairman was certified Tuesday as the party's official standard bearer in November's election.

Likewise, Republican Ken Cuccinelli is unchallenged for the Republican nomination to be decided in mid-May at a statewide party convention in Richmond.

One-time reality television figure and White House party crasher Tariq Salahi hopes to run as an independent.

Other candidates Virginia Democrats certified for June's primary were former White House information technology chief Aneesh Chopra and state Sen. Ralph Northam for lieutenant governor, and state Sen. Mark Herring and former federal prosecutor Justin Fairfax for attorney general.
