Wintergreen to Stay Open for Skiing Until April 5

Wintergreen Resort's ski slopes are staying open a few weeks into spring.

Wintergreen general manager Hank Thiess says the Nelson County resort will be open this coming weekend and again for the season finale on April 5.

Thiess says cold weather favorable for snowmaking, along with upgrades in snowmaking equipment in recent years, helped make March a strong month for the resort.

Thiess says Wintergreen employs more than 1,000 people at the height of the winter season, 650 at the height of summer and 325 year-round.

Wintergreen owner Jim Justice said in February he was interested in selling the resort, citing a lack of time to actively manage Wintergreen.

The Daily Progress reports Wintergreen is listed online by Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., an international real estate and investment firm.
