Laverne Cox Wax Figure on Display for DC Pride Weekend

Laverne Cox is here for Pride! Kind of.

A strikingly lifelike wax figure of Cox is in D.C. for Capital Pride weekend.

Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C. will have the figure on display Thursday through Sunday.

Best known for her role as inmate Sophia Burset in “Orange Is the New Black,” Cox is the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy and to be featured on a TIME cover.

The life-size figure wears the dress featured on that 2014 cover, which the real Cox donated when the figure was first revealed at the museum’s San Francisco location during their Pride weekend in June 2015.

The figure will be located in the A-List Glamour room alongside figures of Angelina Jolie, Justin Bieber and Beyoncé.

“When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary,” Cox said in a statement after the wax figure was unveiled. "I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”

Cox’s replica is here only for a limited time. The figure is on loan and will return to San Francisco after Capital Pride.
