National Christmas Tree Lighting Performers Announced

Jazz trumpeter and pianist Arturo Sandoval and the band Train will perform at the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony this year, along with singer Janelle Monae and Latin musician Prince Royce.

Organizers announce the first slate of performers Wednesday. They will join President Barack Obama and his family for the tree lighting on the Ellipse near the White House Dec. 6.

This will be the 91st year for the annual tree lighting -- a tradition that dates back to President Calvin Coolidge in 1923.

A lottery was held for tickets to the event. Officials are giving out tickets for 3,000 seats and 14,000 standing-room spaces.
