First lady Michelle Obama harvests vegetables with local children from Bancroft and Tubman Elementary schools in the White House Kitchen Garden, Oct. 5, 2011.

If you want to hobnob with the first lady, here’s your chance. Michelle Obama will visit Politics and Prose Bookstore in northwest Washington next week to sign her best-selling book “American Grown: The Story of the White House Garden and Gardens Across America."

The event is May 7 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the store on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, D.C.

It's open to the public, but participants have to purchase the book ahead of time and undergo a security clearance.

Here are the guidelines that appear on the Politics and Prose website:

“One copy of American Grown may be signed per customer. No other books or memorabilia may be brought to the signing. A limited number of wristbands for entry to this event will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis with purchase of American Grown at this event location beginning at 9 a.m. on Thurs. May 2. Limit one wristband per customer. Customers must complete a security screening form in person. Customers may not provide security information for other participants.”

All proceeds from the book sales will go to the National Park Foundation.

Politics and Prose said it's "thrilled" to host the event.
