A non-profit organization in D.C. has worked to sustain the artistic legacy of D.C.’s professional musicians, and an event will honor its efforts Oct. 31.
DC Legendary Musicians was founded to recognize the accomplishments of D.C.-born, D.C.-raised and D.C.-dwelling musicians, including Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, and Chuck Brown, the “Godfather of Go-Go.”
Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton announced Wednesday that she and Mayor Muriel Bowser will speak at Martin Luther King Library at 2 p.m. to recognize DCLM for its preservation and revitalization of of the District’s distinct musical sound.
DCLM has proposed to sponsor a variety of outreach programs to educate and promote the artistic legacy of D.C’s professional musicians. It has also proposed a series of events bringing together musicians and entertainers across multiple genres and generations, encouraging them to perform together.
The scroll of professional musicians will be presented to a Howard Theater representative. A jam session by D.C. musicians will follow the ceremony.
