Cinco De Mayo is on a Monday this year (whomp), but that doesn't mean you shouldn't celebrate it all the same. Here are our picks for bars and restaurants with some of the best food, beer and ambiance to make this year's celebration a success.
This local favorite is located on 14th Street in walking distance from the U Street Metro station. Happy hour starts every day at 4 p.m., but on Cinco de Mayo, things kick off an hour earlier with $5 margaritas, a $10 buffet and a live DJ spinning the soundtrack to your very best May 5 dreams.
If there was one thing that Cinco de Mayo was missing, maybe it's... a waterfront celebration? OK, maybe not technically, but it certainly can't hurt. Southwest D.C.'s Cantina Marina hosted the Running of the Chihuahuas over the weekend; on Monday it's offering Herradura Tequila specials, and a Doggie Happy Hour from the Washington Animal Rescue League.
One of the many reasons to love Eastern Market, Banana Cafe offers Cuban, Puerto Rican and Tex-Mex cuisine all in one piano-riffing place. On Cinco de Mayo, in addition to Karaoke, the Cafe will feature $17 Dos Equis Lager pitchers, $8 Coronaritas and $5 El Jimador and Cuervo shots.

One of D.C.'s better kept secrets, Chupacabra is just what anybody needs for Cinco de Mayo, or any Monday evening/late night. Chupacabra hosts two happy hours daily, Mon.-Fri. 4-6:30 p.m., weekends 1-3:30 p.m. and every day from 10 p.m.- close.
