Cherry Blossom Peak Moved Later

You will have to wait a few more days for the best time to see cherry blossoms at their peak this spring, the National Park Service said.

Tuesday, the Park Service moved back the peak bloom - that is, the moment when at least 70 percent of the blossoms are open - to April 3 to April 6.

Previously, the peak had been expected to be March 26 to March 30, but that was before the recent cold snap.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off Wednesday. This year is the 101st anniversary of Japan's gift of 101 trees to the United States.

The opening ceremony is on Saturday, March 23 at the Warner Theatre.
