Batman Is Top Costume in Washington This Halloween, Says Google Frightgeist

The top costume search in Washington, D.C. has nothing to do with real estate moguls-turned-presidential candidates -- or even with pudgy baby pandas.

In the nation's capital, it's all about heroes and villans. Batman is Washington's most-searched costume idea, according to a new website launched by Google labs that crawls costume-related searches.

Google’s Frightgeist uses Google trend data to define the most popular costumes across the U.S. Frightgeist pulls from the top 500 costumes in the United States, and the top costumes are broken down by region and city.

D.C. is feeling comic book fever. Rounding out the top five costumes in Washington are:

2. Star Wars
3. Superhero
4. Harley Quinn
5. Pirate

But if you want to save a dollar and pull out the minion costume from last year, good news! The top ten nationally trending costumes according to Frightgeist are:

1. Harley Quinn
2. Star Wars
3. Superhero
4. Pirate
5. Batman
6. Minnie Mouse
7. Witch
8. Minions
9. Joker
10. Wonder Woman

Donald Trump is among the most popular celebrity costumes, according to Frightgeist, but his popularity has fallen since 2006. Hillary Clinton doesn't even chart.

In Juneau, Alaska, unlovable doll Chucky is the top costume. Eugene, Oregon is going ga-ga over Mary Poppins costumes, and in Watertown, New York, peacock costumes are most popular.

And if you have any relatives in Lake Charles, Louisiana, let them know they won’t be the only candy corn on the street this Saturday.
