How to Watch Prince's ‘Purple Rain' at Theaters, at Home

2 local AMCs will show film, can be rented online

Feeling nostalgic or want to watch Prince's famous film "Purple Rain" for the first time? 

The 1984 film with a Grammy-winning soundtrack will screen starting Saturday at two theaters in the area. 

AMC Hoffman 22 in Alexandria, Virginia, and AMC Magic Johnson Capital Center 12 in Largo, Maryland, will show the film, along with 85 other AMC theaters across the country.

The “Purple Rain” showings are set to run through Thursday.

If you feel like enjoying the movie from home, you can rent or buy "Purple Rain" through AmazonYouTube, the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.

The film tells the story of a young musician’s struggle to stardom, as he faces a difficult home life and contends with a rival singer. 

"Purple Rain," directed by Albert Magnoli, won the Academy Award for best original song score.
