A Toast to D.C. Takes Over Carnegie Library This Friday

Friday night's A Toast to D.C. will take place in a suitably historic locale -- the Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square -- but the sips are decidedly modern.

If you go, you'll get to taste samples from some of the District's rising-star breweries and distilleries, including Atlas Brew Works, Port City Brewing Company, DC Brau, New Columbia Distillers/Green Hat Gin and Catoctin Creek Distilling Company.

The event is part of the Smithsonian at 8 event series, and it's all happening Friday, May 8 from 8-11 p.m. (unless you spring for VIP access, which grants you entry at 7 p.m.). You'll get to enjoy after-hours access to the Carnegie Library, home to the D.C. Historical Society (801 K St. NW).

You'll get to check out the Historical Society's new exhibition, For the Record: Artfully Historic D.C., which features architectural portraits of local sites listed as endangered by the D.C. Preservation League. You can also catch a letterpress printing demo, duck into the photo booth, and join in on a digital scavenger hunt. Music will come from DJ As-One.

General admission tickets are $40 and include five drink samples. A two-ticket combo, available only in advance, for $65 includes two tickets and five drink samples.

VIP tickets at $65 each will get you in an hour early, as well as Chesapeake Bay oysters from the Rappahannock Oyster Company and War Shore Oyster Company, drink samples, light hors d'oeuvres, and a commemorative pint glass.
