It’s Valentine’s Day weekend! Why not celebrate? If you’re looking for something fun to do, here are six events in the D.C. area to kick off the holiday.

1. "I Love You Because"

Go see a musical! Starting Friday at 8 p.m., you can watch a romance unfold in the musical play “I Love You Because” at the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg, Maryland (311 Kent Square Road). The story follows an uptight greeting card writer and a flighty photographer who fall in love with each other despite their differences. The show is set in New York City and has a similar vibe to the popular sitcom “Friends.”

The play will run every weekend through Feb. 26. On Fridays and Saturdays the show starts at 8 p.m., while every Sunday the show will begin at 2 p.m.

“I Love You Because” is presented by Damascus Theatre Company with music by Joshua Salzman. The book and lyrics are by Ryan Cunningham, an award-winning writer.
