5 Upcoming Shows From DC-Area Artists You Won't Want to Miss

Enjoy different music genres from these local musicians.

D.C. has always had an active and vibrant music scene. If you're looking for new music to obsess over or wondering what your favorite local artist is up to, check out these upcoming shows.

Airhead DC -- Jan. 20, doors at 7:30 p.m. @ Black Cat

D.C. native Vishal Narang makes crunchy, experimental pop music under the name Airhead DC. His music is surf pop on Nyquil, but gravelly textures keep it interesting. He opens for Texan musician Bayonne.

Elena & Los Fulanos, Near Northeast and Ballad've -- Jan. 21, doors at 7:30 p.m. @ Black Cat

Listen to cozy music from this bilingual folk rock band. Weaving Spanish and English together, airy vocals from lead singer Elena Lacayo blend soothingly with gentle instrumentals. Fellow D.C. folk rockers Near Northeast and Ballad've will share the stage.

Loud Boyz -- Feb. 5, doors at 8 p.m. @ Rock & Roll Hotel

Rock out with the Loud Boyz, who are keeping D.C.'s punk tradition alive. This five-piece band is headbanging without being neck-breaking. The members got together in 2014 and released their debut album just last year. It'll be a night of crashing guitars and rough vocals with support from Baltimore punks War on Women and D.C. garage rock band The Rememberables.

GoldLink -- March 16, doors at 7 p.m. @ 9:30 Club

2015 was a busy year for D.C. rapper D'Anthony Carlos, otherwise known as GoldLink. He followed up his 2014 mixtape with his much anticipated debut album "And After That, We Didn't Talk." GoldLink has described his music as "future bounce," and it's a fitting term. His quick, rhythmic flow matches the smooth instrumentals, making sure listeners will really bounce to his music, even if its content can be somewhat somber. It's a joint show with Seattle producer Sango that you won't want to miss.

Logic -- March 31, doors at 7 p.m. @ Echostage

Logic released his first mixtape in 2010 and since then, the young rapper has steadily released music each year. His latest release is sophomore album "The Incredible True Story" from last November. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native has a melodic flow that easily switches from speedy rapping to tenor vocals and a musical sensibility that has an old school feel to it.
