Salahi Security Detail Sparks Police Investigation

More 'splainin' to do over "Real Housewives" couple

Do Tareq and Michaele Salahi have a knack for exposing law enforcement protocol that seems to slip through the cracks?

Exhibit A, of course, would be the alleged unauthorized White House entry that cemented their spot in the Party Crashing Hall of Fame. Exhibit B might be the security detail the couple had during a party at the popular downtown spot, The Park at Fourteenth -- an event that aired Thursday night on the second episode of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Washington D.C."

The Salahis arrived to the party fashionably late in a white limousine with something unusual in tow: a police cruiser. It even drew the ire of fellow housewife Lynda Erkiletian, who called the Virginia couple out for their "showiness" at a birthday bash for someone else.

Well you're not alone, Lynda. The D.C. Metro Police Department also raised an eyebrow at the situation. Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed to NBC4 on Friday that the department would look into the circumstances surrounding that police escort.

But it turns out a U.S. Park Police cruiser was the escort in question. Half Yard Productions spokesperson Bronagh Hanley told The Reliable Source that the D.C. police cruiser seen in the episode last week was edited into the shot incorrectly.

"Half Yard Productions had no involvement whatsoever in arranging the escort in question," Hanley said.

Now Park Police are investigating the incident. A spokesman said Park Police will provide security detail for movie and television filming, but only for a fee and with a pre-arranged permit. This incident may have been outside Park Police parameters.

So while it's not clear whether anyone within the police department did anything wrong concerning the Salahis, it's clear the couple's appearance at yet another party has prompted yet another investigation.

The Salahis' lawyer had no comment about the incident.

If you can stand to watch more people rolling their eyes at Tareq and Michaele, check out a clip of them at the aforementioned party (police cruiser not seen) here.
