"I do not believe I wrecked his home," Hunter said. "It's not my experience that a third party wrecks a home."
The appearance on Oprah was Hunter’s first televised interview since John Edwards first admitted two years ago that he had an affair with Hunter. In January, Edwards said he and Hunter have a 2-year-old daughter after initially denying it. He and his wife, Elizabeth Edwards are now separated.
Hunter told Winfrey that Edwards sees their daughter Quinn and gives her child support. She also admitted to still being in love with Edwards despite the drawn out denial and drama of their relationship.
Edwards’ cancer stricken wife, Elizabeth, didn't know about the full extent of Hunter’s relationship with John Edwards. She initially found out about Hunter on December 31.
“On the morning of Dec. 31, she (Elizabeth) found a cell phone I bought for him and she called it and I picked up and said ‘hey baby,’ and she hung up right away,” Hunter told Winfrey.
But it wasn’t until after John Edwards gave an interview on ABC’s Nightline in August 2008 when Elizabeth found out about the baby. Hunter claimed the only reason Edwards went on Nightline was because Elizabeth told him to. Edwards denied he fathered Hunter’s baby on the show but told Elizabeth the truth shortly after the show.
"She (Elizabeth) didn't know until after the interview," Hunter told Winfrey. "He came clean with her after that interview."
GQ magazine last month published an interview with Hunter in which she addressed the scandal. But there’s still one thing not clear, are Hunter and Edwards still romantically involved. Winfrey tried using her charm at the end of the interview and asked what the current status of their relationship is and Hunter flashed a big smile and said, “it’s private.”
