Stephen Colbert thinks Mitt Romney has the right idea about how best to prepare for the general election.

Stephen Colbert wants you to do your part in preparing the Republican presidential candidates for the general election: Talk trash about them.

On "The Colbert Report" Wednesday night, the would-be conservative talk show host reacted to Mitt Romney's victory in Florida a day earlier — and his decisive margin.

"14 percent! That is higher than Mitt's tax rate," Colbert joked. "Romney kicked Newt to the curb like a plant manager whose job he just moved to another country."

He noted, though, that part of what helped secure Romney his Florida win was the nasty turn toward negativity his campaign has taken — with many pundits calling this race the most vicious in presidential history.

And mocking Romney's claim that the onslaught of negativity was helping to prepare Republicans for their fight against Obama, Colbert unveiled a new hashtag he wants his fans to use in mean-spirited tweets aimed at the frontrunners: #preparethem.

"Do the right thing, nation, and really tear these guys a new one to, you know, help," he said.
