New Yorkers and "30 Rock" fans can breathe a sigh of relief: Alec Baldwin would rather be Jack Donaghy than mayor.

Although the outspoken liberal actor fueled speculation earlier this year that he might run for mayor of the Big Apple, he's decided against it.

"I've lost my appetite," he said during his podcast this week.

He dropped the idea in part because he's grown jaded at the idea that he could really change things in public office and in part because he loves his "30 Rock" job too much to give it up.

His decision also had to do with the other likely candidates, said Baldwin, who couldn't resist a humorous swipe at his would-be rivals: "They're like a guy on a date that you can tell he just can't wait to get his hand up your blouse before even the lights go out in the theater."

Would New York elect a Mayor Baldwin? Baldwin has almost two years to reconsider and find out for himself.

Another of Hollywood's leading liberals has just shot down rumors that he might seek office, too.

Matt Damon is adamant that he's not looking to enter politics, though he slammed President Barack Obama recently for what he called a failure to deliver on campaign promises and Democratic ideals.

Looks like fans and Democrats will have to content themselves with entertainers-turned-pols like Al Franken for now.
