Now Fey’s ability to really hit our funny bone has won her the nation’s top humor prize from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Not only will Fey join the comedic ranks of Bill Cosby, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin and others who’ve won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, at the tender age of 40, she’ll be the youngest honoree ever.
Fey reacted to the news of her imminent feting by saying she’s thrilled but that she assumes actress Betty White must have been disqualified (for the honor) for steroid use. White, of course, made her own splash a few weeks ago guest-hosting SNL.
However, this will be Fey’s party. And what a party it’s been for a comedian whose career started with Chicago’s The Second City Improv group. She went on to become SNL’s first female head writer, created NBC’s hit comedy “30 Rock” and has starred in hit movies. Her new movie “Date Night” with Steve Carell is now playing in theaters.
Fey will pick up her coveted prize in November, no joke.
