Disgraced Pastor Ted Haggard in TV “Wife Swap” with Gary Busey

These wives are in for a real treat

There may be no winners here, but disgraced pastor Ted Haggard is going to swith spouses with troubled actor Gary Busey for an upcoming TV epsode of "Celebrity Wife Swap."

Haggard, who lost the pulpit at New Life Church in a scandal involving methamphetamine and a male prostitute, and his wife, Gayle, will appear in the new ABC reality series, producers confirmed. They'll switch parters with Busey and his girlfriend, Steffanie Sampson.

The show is scheduled to shoot Thursday at the GLBT Pride Center in Colorado Springs, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Haggard was the president of the National Association of Evangelicals until his 2006 fall from grace. Since then, he’s appeared in countless news reports and documentaries that were shown on TLC and HBO. He’s been featured on “Divorce Court” “Oprah Winfrey” and “Larry King Live.”

“Celebrity Wife Swap,” like the TV series "Wife Swap,” has spouses trading places, which inevitably leads to clashes and, theoretically, better relations once couples are reunited. The swapping does not extend to the bedroom, as far as anyone knows.

Under the show's premise, Haggard and Busey will make the rules for their new “spouses” for the first half of the period. Next, the women take over. The two men have more in common than simply being wacky: Busey is a born-again Christian and active minister with Promise Keepers, and Haggard has returned to the ministry as pastor of St. James Christian church in Colorado Springs.
