Tom Jones Hospitalized After Cancelled Gig—But His Heart's Fine

Tom Jones, the Welsh singer whose sex appeal knows no age limits, is recovering in a hospital in Monaco from a bout of "severe dehydration," his spokesman said Sunday.

The 71-year-old Welsh singer whose sex appeal knows no bounds denied reports in British tabloids that a heart scare had been behind his Saturday concert's cancellation.

The cancelled Saturday show was supposed to wrap up a three-month world tour.

A spokesman for the Princess Grace Hospital where Jones was recouping told The Associated Press that the pop star was doing well but didn't say when he would be released.

"Sir Tom was ordered by doctors not to perform in Monte Carlo yesterday evening," said a statement on Jones' Web site, where he also apologized to his fans for the unusual cancellation.

Jones became a star beginning in the 1960s with a string of hits like "It's Not Unusual" and "She's a Lady."

Over the decades, he earned an enduring reputation as an international sex symbol with the help of his long-running Las Vegas gigs and his legions of underpants-throwing fans.
