Despite buzz about Elton John performing at Prince William's much-anticipated wedding, the British pianoman said he is not expecting an invitation to the big day because he doesn't know the couple well.
John, who famously performed "Candle in the Wind" at Princess Diana's funeral, blew out speculation that he'd be hitting the ivories for her son's marriage to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton in a Reuters interview this past weekend.
"I think because of my relationship with Princess, Diana, people automatically think I'm going to be invited," the British pop star said.
The guest list for the April 20 ceremony will be announced sometime next month, but John ensures he won't be on it.
"I'm not invited to the wedding, I would not expect to be invited to the wedding," he said.
While John was close to Diana, the famous singer said he doesn't think he'll be asked to come to the historical event because he does not know her children, William and Harry, too well.
"I don't really know the boys at all," John told Reuters. "I met the boys and had luch with them when their mother was alive. I re-met them again when I did the concert for Diana a couple of years ago -- the memorial concert.
That concert, organized by William and Harry in 2007, marked the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death.
"These boys are their own people, they have their own friends, and I just hope that they have the best day and its sunny and it's a great occasion for them," the "Circle of Life" singer said.
"I just wish them the happiest of lives together," John also said of the royal couple. "They seem very happy. He's a really terrific man, William, and he's going to be a great king."
