Hollywood Returns to D.C. Area

Is D.C. the new hot spot location for movies?

We’ve told you about D.C. on T.V., but the Washington area is really getting a taste of Hollywood when it comes to the big screen. Locations in and around the District will be the backdrop for several upcoming movies.

We reported the delay in filming for “Transformers 3,” but the mechanical extraterrestrials are not the only movie stars invading the area.

The third installment of the “Transformers” series is sure to excite residents, but our area can expect to be spooked, as well. The people behind “The Blair Witch Project” are planning on filming their next frightening flick in Maryland.

“The Possession” will be shot in Washington County, according to The Herald-Mail. Tom Riford, president and CEO of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the newspaper that more than 100 cast and crew are expected to come to the area to work on the project.

Riford said Washington County “rolled out the welcome mat” for the film crew. Movies bring short-term economic advantages to the locations they shoot at. “She’s In the Details,” an independent film, finished shooting in the county last month.

Shooting for “Transformers 3” will most likely be on a larger scale. Josh Friedman of D.C.’s Office of Motion Picture and Television Development revealed some of the shooting locations to The Washington Examiner. DAR Constitution Hall and the Red Cross will both be used “to double as the White House,” according to Friedman.

While we're sure these shoots won't help traffic, locals may be able to sneak a peek at Hollywood's upcoming hits.
