Mayor Gray Goes Hollywood

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is heading to Hollywood.

He'll meet with studio and production company executives while there, with the goal of luring more big-budget productions to the District.

Part of the obstacle to moviemaking in the District is financial. States with a major film-industry presence, such as Maryland, typically give away hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks and other incentives. The District's incentive program is currently unfunded.

But Gray said the District has "an incredible talent base and resources" that should be attractive to producers.

The mayor will be spending three days in Los Angeles. He's attending the summer leadership meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
