Ellen Unveils $500K Refurbish of Detroit Gym For Middle Schoolers

After the grand reveal, Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford and Wide Receiver Golden Tate stop by to celebrate the opening

Ellen makes dreams come true for hundreds of kids at the Spain Elementary-Middle School in Detroit, Mi on Friday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." after giving their gymnasium a compete face lift.

For some of them, it may be their first time in a fully equipped gymnasium. For others, the seven-month wait has been just long enough to pique their interest about how the room will look after its face lift.

When DeGeneres learned of the unacceptable conditions at the school last February, she partnered with Lowe’s to provide them with $500,000 and started a fundraiser page for viewers to get involved.

Since then, Lowe’s volunteers have been working to update Spain’s gym facility after it was left so damaged last year from a leak that the students had to take physical education classes in the hallways. Now, it’s sparkling and new, with murals on the wall and plenty of room for sprints and burpees.
