Actor Ryan O'Neal appeared in a segment on the "Today" show Monday and said he will never sell the Andy Warhol portrait of his late girlfriend Farrah Fawcett that he was awarded the rights to in court last week.
"It will never be sold," O'Neal said. "It will go on to her son Redmond and his children, and his children." Redmond is O'Neal and Fawcett's 28-year-old son.
O'Neal appeared with his attorney Martin Singer and said he was on an operating table having surgery when he heard the jury voted in his favor in a case against Fawcett's alma mater, University of Texas. The school claimed the rights to two Warhol portraits of the late actress, saying she left both to the university in her will after her death in 2009.
The jury voted 9 to 3 to let O'Neal keep one portrait, while the school keeps the other.
The value of the portrait is unknown but it's a relic of his relationship with Fawcett that he said he intends to hold on to.
"It was always invaluable to us," O'Neal said. "She was a wonderful woman and this is what was left."
