Miley Cyrus and fashion designer Stefano Gabbana took to Instagram over the weekend in a heated exchange regarding Dolce & Gabbana’s political views. And the collateral damage may be her brother's burgeoning modeling career.
The spat began after Cyrus posted a picture on Saturday congratulating her brother Braison Cyrus for walking Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2018 Milan Fashion Week show.
All well and good. But Cyrus added a caveat to her post. She fired a parting shot to Dolce & Gabbana.
"PS D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics.... but I do support your company's effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!"
Gabbana fired back on Instagram. "We are Italian and we don't care about politics and mostly neither about the American one! We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it's simply ignorant. We don't need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!! #boycottdolcegabbana.”
He also made his presence known on the singer’s account, commenting "Ignorant!!!" on Cyrus’s original post and adding "For your stupid comment never more work with him," on another one of her pictures.
In recent months Dolce & Gabbana’s open support of First Lady Melania Trump has drawn criticism on social media. The brand responded with a tongue in cheek ad campaign and line of t-shirts urging people to "#Boycott Dolce & Gabbana."
In the past, the brand’s designers have come under fire for their views on same sex adoption and In Vitro fertilization. Although he has since issued an apology, Domenico Dolce was quoted in a 2015 Panorama magazine article saying "we oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one," and "No chemical offsprings and rented uterus; Life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed."
