Jay Z, Carrie Underwood, No Doubt to Headline Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park

It's do-gooders coming together on a global scale.

Jay Z, Carrie Underwood, The Roots, Fun., No Doubt, Hugh Jackman and other celebrities will join world leaders and more than 60,000 people on September 27 in New York's Central Park for the third Global Citizen Festival.

The Global Poverty Project is behind the concert and NBC News will broadcast a one-hour primetime special from the event that will also air live on msnbc and msnbc.com.

"Thousands of global citizens will gather together to convince world leaders to end extreme poverty by the year 2030," Jackman said Wednesday on "Today."

45,000 free tickets to the event are being offered via the Global Poverty Project website. Entry to the free ticket draw is achieved by earning points via performing acts meant to help end extreme poverty around the world.

VIP tickets are being sold through Ticketmaster.

In its previous two years, actions taken by Festival concertgoers resulted in $1.3 billion in new funding and 35 commitments from world leaders that benefit the poor.

Neil Young, Foo Fighters and the Black Keys performed at the festival in 2012, and Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and John Mayer headlined the concert last year.
