Grateful Dead Break Soldier Field Ticket Sales Record All Three Nights

Soldier Field sold a record 71,000 tickets to the final show Sunday night

The Deadheads have done it again at Chicago's Soldier Field, breaking the ticket sales record for the third night in a row during the final show Sunday night.

Prior to the first of the three shows Friday night, the record number of tickets sold at the stadium was 67,936 at U2's 2009 "360 Tour" stop, according to Soldier Field.

On Friday, the Grateful Dead sold a record 70,764 tickets to fans in Chicago and across the country. The next night, they sold even more — 70,844. And finally, the record-smashing third performance on Sunday saw 71,000 ticketholders.

The three-day show was the final performance by the band. When tickets sold out within minutes after they first went on sale in March, the Grateful Dead added a second two-day show in Santa Clara, California.

After selling out on Ticketmaster, passes to the Soldier Field show immediately hit the secondary market, where three-day passes were priced as high as $116,000. As the concert dates drew nearer, the price of tickets on sites like StubHub dropped drastically.
