Garry Shandling's Famous Friends Gather at His House ‘to Say Goodbye'

Stars played basketball at the late comedian's house one last time

Garry Shandling's famous friends are still honoring their late pal.

A large group of stars gathered at the late comedian's home over the weekend to play some basketball. The "Larry Sanders Show" star was a huge fan of the sport and often invited friends to come over and play, so Judd Apatow and many more felt that playing one last pick-up game would be the best way to pay tribute to Shandling.

Shandling passed away Thursday of an apparent heart attack, his rep confirmed to E! News, despite doctors believing he was in good health. He had no history of heart problems nor was he suffering from any illness at the time. The legendary comedian influenced Apatow, Ricky Gervais, Jon Stewart and more comedians throughout his career.

"One last game of basketball at Garry's house to say goodbye," Apatow captioned a group picture on Instagram. Those gathered included Apatow, Sarah Silverman, Ryan Phillippe, Bill Maher, Jeffrey Tambor, Kevin Nealon, Breckin Meyer, Jesse Bradford and more. Some of the group also went to dinner at Craig's restaurant in Los Angeles to continue honoring their late friend. [[373743501,C]]

"A bunch of fans of Garry Shandling who were lucky enough to become friends of Garry Shandling," Bradford posted on Instagram. "RIP brother I don't think you even realize how much you will be missed." He also shared an old photo of him playing basketball with the late star. [[373743901,C]]

Shortly after the news broke of Shandling's death, many A-listers paid tribute on social media. At first, Apatow couldn't find the words say, choosing to share a solemn photo of the comedian at work. Jim Carrey shared a heartfelt statement to us, saying, "When you get the light in a comedy club you know your time is up. Life doesn't always give you a signal. Garry Shandling performed at the highest level on and offstage. He was an excellent man and he was more than ready for the Big Show. Bravo Garry! Yours was a life well lived."

While his tragic death was unexpected to those closest to him and his fans, the star will make one final screen appearance in "The Jungle Book" movie, which is set to premiere on April 4th, hitting theaters on April 15th. [[238430011,C]]
