Dante de Blasio Named to Time's Influential Teens List

The son of New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio has been named to Time's annual list of influential teens, thanks in part to his now iconic hairdo.

Sixteen-year-old Dante de Blasio joins the likes of Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, first daughter Malia Obama and pop star Justin Bieber on the magazine's "16 Most Influential Teens of 2013," published Tuesday. Citing his famous Afro, the magazine called Dante the city's latest fashion icon.

"Dante's now iconic Afro has starred in a campaign ad, inspired a New York Times Style section piece and even gained President Obama's attention," Time states.

The now-famous ad featuring Dante released in August helped his dad surge in polls in a crowded race for the Democratic nomination.

Dante's 18-year-old sister, Chiara, didn't make the list, but Time pointed out her signature headbands as the soon-to-be first kids campaigned for their dad.
