This 1980 file photo shows actress and model Brooke Shields, left, with her mother Teri Shields. Teri Shields, who launched daughter Brookeís on-camera career when she was a baby and managed the young star into her 20s, died last week in New York City.
Teri Shields, the mother of actress and model Brooke Shields, has passed away at 79. She died in Manhattan last Wednesday after battling dementia for years, according to People.
A single mom, Terri Shields managed her daughter's early career, starting with a Dove soap advertisement gig when Brooke Shields was 11-months-old, The New York Times reported. Later Brooke appeared in the movie “Pretty Baby” as a child prostitute and in a controversial Calvin Klein jeans campaign -- both at the age of 15.
Brooke Shields, now 47, has yet to publicly comment about her mother's passing.
She told The New York Times in 1994 that she had a difficult relationship with her mother. “I grew up in an alcoholic household," she said then.
