The Michael Jackson saga has claimed another victim.
Evan Chandler, whose son accused the King of Pop of child molestation in the '90s, was found dead in his New Jersey home, the victim of a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.
Chandler was found on Nov. 5, alone in the bed of his Liberty Towers home with a revolver in his hands, Jersey City police spokesman Stan Eason said on Tuesday, reported the New York Post. There was no sign of foul play and his death was ruled a suicide, added Eason.
In 1993, Jordy Chandler, then 13, was under anesthesia for a tooth extraction when he first told his father, then a Beverly Hills dentist, that Michael Jackson had molested him.
The claim led to a 13-month investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse but never led to criminal charges after Jackson settled the case for some $20 million.
In addition to his dental practice, Evan Chandler also had a writing credit on Mel Brooks' "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," which was released the same year his son accused Jackson of touching him.
But the riches from the Jackson settlement and the success of Chandler's budding screenwriting career were not enough to keep the family together. Jordy was at one point estranged from his mother, before returning to her after accusing his father in 2006 of attacking him with a dumbbell.
Strangely, Evan Chandler, like Jackson, underwent a series of plastic surgeries. The procedures were the result of a mixture of vanity and paranoia about being attacked by still angry Jackson fans, a source told the Post.
Chandler, who had a "serious medical issue," was found dead when a building worker checked on him at the request of a doctor who became concerned when Chandler missed a doctor's appointment, Eason said.
"There was no note found in the apartment but officers did find medication in keeping with a serious medical condition," Eason said. "Mr. Chandler’s body has now been returned to his family.”
