John Travolta's Lawyer Quotes Film During Blackmail Trial

Attorney takes a page from "A Few Good Men" during extortion trial

The attorney for John Travolta in the extortion plot surrounding his teen son's death channeled Jack Nicholson from "A Few Good Men" during the trial yesterday when he yelled the infamous line: "You can't handle the truth!"

Defense attorney Murrio Ducille accused Travolta's attorney, Michael McDermott, of entrapment in the case against two individuals who allegedly threatened to sell stories to the media suggesting the actor was at fault in the January death of his 16-year-old son Jett unless they were paid $25 million, according to the New York Daily News.

"I suggest, Mr. McDermott, that you sought to give birth to an extortion plot but it was stillborn," Ducille said in Bahamas Supreme Court.

"And I suggest that you can't handle the truth," McDermott fired back.

The line elicited laughter from the courtroom and Judge Anita Allen had to call for order, the News reported.

On Monday, hidden camera footage of negotiations between Travolta's attorney and one of the accused -- a former Bahamas senator -- was aired for the jury and shows the politician asking for at least $20 million not to sell the story. The trial began on Sept. 21.

Prosecutors say the defendants were arrested after they accepted a deal for $10 million installments over a four-year period.
