Leonard Nimoy Is Recovering After Surgery

"Star Trek" fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Leonard Nimoy, who played the iconic TV series character Spock, is recovering after being treated for “minor benign abdominal surgery,” E! Online reported.

Details about the operation or where it happened were not disclosed.

The announcement came from the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, Calif., where Nimoy was originally scheduled to make an appearance for tonight.

On its Web site, the Center said that the actor is “recovering beautifully" and that Nimoy’s wife Susan “extends her thanks to everyone for their get-well wishes.”

E! Online also said that the 79-year-old Nimoy also canceled his appearance at the MOCA in Massachusetts and that both of those events will be rescheduled.

In May, it was reported that Nimoy’s guest spot on the season finale of the FOX TV series "Fringe" would be his last ever appearance as an actor and that he was retiring.
