Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish are considering adoption, the musician told Reuters. The couple fell in love with a 14-month-old Ukrainian orphan while John was performing with his AIDS foundation. "Having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him," Elton said. "I don't know how we do that but he has stolen my heart."
Elton John said the birth of his newborn son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was a dream come true.
"For many years we have talked about fulfilling one of our greatest wishes by becoming parents," John told Usmagazine.com. "And now this wish has been granted to us. We feel so blessed and lucky."
John, 62, and partner David Furnish, 48, became proud parents on Dec. 25 with the help of a surrogate. The pair had previously tried to adopt a 14-month-old boy named Lev and his brother Artyom, who is HIV-positive, from a Ukrainian orphanage but the adoption bid fell through.
"David always wanted to adopt a child, and I always said, 'No' because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldnt be fair for the child," John told reporters last fall. "But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him."
Despite the failed adoption attempt, Furnish said the pair is still trying to help Lev and Artyom.
"The arrival of our son has done nothing but strengthen our resolve to help those two wonderful children," he told Us.
